The University of Utah Huntsman Arena Renovation was originally focused on upgrading lighting and sound within the Arena to provide the spectators and athletes with an enhanced experience at events. To add additional flexibility to the function of the space, a new aluminum truss rigging system and curtain dividers were added to the scope of the project.
The construction schedule start date had to be coordinated around previously scheduled events, including University Commencement activities, High School Graduations, Gymnastic Tournaments, and the completion of the project needed to be accomplished before the start of Basketball and Volleyball in October.
The Arena was originally built in the 1960’s. The ceiling cloud of the original construction housed all of the lighting within the Arena, the majority of the Sound System, and a hoist system that allowed the scoreboard to be lowered for servicing. This assembly weighed nearly 200,000 lbs. and has been replaced by a new aluminum truss system.
