OVERVIEW

The University Guest House provides high-quality housing for patients and visitors of the University of Utah Medical Center and Primary Children’s Hospital at a reduced rate. This addition enhances the visitor experience, provides convenience and–most importantly–increases safety for guests and employees. The expansion includes a new wing with 30 added guest suites, a large conference room, and a new plaza.

Prior to Gramoll’s involvement, this project was canceled due to an estimated budget overage of $2M by the original CM/GC team. Subsequently awarded to Gramoll Construction as a design/build project, the Gramoll team was able to deliver the original quality of the guest rooms with the square footage called for in the original budget. Gramoll accomplished this by working with the owner to provide budget engineering options that did not sacrifice program requirements. For example, the building footprint was shifted to reduce the quantity of fill and the number of retaining walls.
