OVERVIEW

The Residential Scholars Community houses 309 Honors students and resident advisors in apartment-style units featuring the finest amenities. Despite budget challenges, weather complications and tight infrastructure coordination, the strength of Gramoll’s design and construction team facilitated completion of this project 6 weeks ahead of schedule and within budget–even after bids came in $1M over budget.

Careful adjustments were made to the design and prioritizations of spaces were further developed to offset this budget challenge. Through resourceful and innovative thinking on the part of the entire team, the project was completed without sacrificing any spaces, material quality, or construction quality; in fact many features and spaces were windfalls beyond the project scope agreed with the university.

This facility is a flagship to the State of Utah as well as the University of Utah and offers a unique opportunity for student engagement that is unparalleled to any other college experience. This community also serves as a visible icon to the University’s commitment to teaching, research, learning, living and public life.
