OVERVIEW

This 13,000 SF project involved the comprehensive renovation of the HPER East building at the University of Utah, transforming existing space into state-of-the-art research facilities. The remodel focused on enhancing the university’s capabilities in health and exercise science research.

The renovation included the construction of several specialized laboratories and research spaces. A new biomechanics lab and movement research lab were created to support advanced studies in human movement and performance. A wet lab was installed to facilitate experiments involving liquids and chemicals.

The project also featured the addition of a metabolic kitchen, designed specifically for nutrition studies and metabolic research. An exercise intervention and testing lab was constructed to enable cutting-edge exercise-related experiments and assessments. To support sleep research, the renovation incorporated sleep study rooms complete with a centralized control center for monitoring and data collection. In addition to these specialized spaces, the remodel included the creation of new open offices.

Throughout the renovation process, Gramoll Construction worked closely with the University of Utah to minimize disruption to ongoing academic activities. Our team’s expertise in laboratory construction ensured that each specialized space was tailored to meet the specific needs of researchers and students while adhering to the highest standards of quality and safety.
